free Vue d'esprit with ComputerArts Magazine issue 100

On the CD of ComputerArts 100 is a full-working version of Vue d'esprit 3.1 LE.
I am told that you can "ungrade to the full version for some $50.

Also: CA is sold in the US by Barnes and Noble.

That's quite a deal! I'd suggest people try it out. I've come to like Vue d'Esprit 4 better than Bryce.

What's the difference between Vue and Vue d'esprit? Or is it the same?

This can be interesting as we Europeans have to add VAT to the price-tag, meaning Vue4 would cost 250 Euro (appr.$300) instead of the $179 people pay in the US.

Its the same, Erik. The issue was packaging. Vue 3 had the d'Esprit in tiny letters on the box while Vue 3 was above and printed in LARGE letters.

Wow, that's quite a difference. }:\

By the way Vue 5 has been announced to be released in the near future. It looks to be very exciting.

Do you mean the difference between Vue d'Esprit and Vue (Pro)?

If you were looking for that, then here I have a url that explains it all;

As you can see there are a lot of differences.

I see, from the supplied link, that the pro version offers more natural shadow options.

Kinda sux that even with an upgrade to 4 that the rendering engine will just do basic shadow mapping. Then again I may be wrong!

I'm pretty new to 3D and I'm having a blast so far but I would LOVE to see some examples of what can be accomplished with Vue 3 and 4 non pro versions.

Anyone have any??

Thanks!!

Richard ;)

What is the isbn of that? My Barnes and Nobles claims that no such ComputerArts 100 exists. Or are you referring to the magazine?

I don't think it's been released yet, at least not here in the US. I just picked up issue 99 last night at Fry's Super Store!!

RAMWolff,

Here are a couple of Vue 4 items which I posted here a while ago. My suggestion would be to go for Vue 4 and hold off on the Pro version until you realize why you need it. Vue 4 is stunning right out of the box. The pro version costs $600 but a side grade from Vue 4 is only $400 so you don't lose anything by working your way up the ladder. From my perspective, the biggest difference is the foliage/plant generation abilities and the ability to use the new format will be added to Vue 5, due out fairly soon.
