    Just checking here - are you using the direct selection tool (the white arrow) when you select points as Paul suggested? That will select individual anchor points. Then do as Paul said for multiple points - hold down SHIFT and continue clicking.

    Thank you, Agent, for your comment! Yes, I tried using the white arrow tool for selecting, but it still doesn't work for me to select directly anchor points of different paths and make a new one out of these... What I do now is to copy the paths, then delete portions of them, and then joining the rest together. But if there exists a shorter way, I'd gladly hear of it :-)!
