    Beyond "Snap to pixel grid"

    Hello All,
I've encountered a problem with illustrator that has me baffled.
When I use the rectangle tool or line segment tool, the weight and color of the line segment turns to a sort of transparent grey and the line weight seems to be at least 1pt when I'm trying to use .5 pt.
I've unticked the "Snap to pixel grid" on the start menu and the transform panel as well.

    Any ideas???

Are you sure the opacity is 100%?

Sometimes I have to draw my line or shape first, make sure it's selected, then go to the stroke palette and change the size. See if that works.
