Good cleanup.... but I find it needs to reatain a bit of the wrinkles so it would look a bit natural...... just my 2 cents.

I agree with dv8_fx. While most portraits are supposed to be flattering, there are times when you shouldn't do much if anything.

I see in this photo a man who has spent a large portion of his life in the outdoors. The facial lines are an indication of that, his character and life history. I'd likely reduce the red in his eyes, a little teeth whitening, a slight vignette, curves adjustment, but that's about all. In the end these things are very subjective, and we can't forget the clients expectations either.

Thanks I appreciate all the posts. Yeah, I did this a few months ago pretty quickly. I was just learning the Heal brush tool, and the High pass filter. So I went through some face softening tutorials, and healing brush tuts. The image was just something for fun to work on.

You did a great job, and if that's what he wanted it's perfect.

But I have to agree with Hawkeye, there's character in those lines.
That's a great image to work with.
I can see it as a B&W with some dramatic lighting effects.

You did well but I think you could use less smoothness. If you use smart blur then the result will may be more nice.

That is definitely a great image to work with.

Looks like you learned what you were after and you did a nice job with the smoothing, but I agree with hawkeye and the others that the lines in his face have character, personally I think they are fantastic and would not smooth them out.

Yeah, I agree. I would have kept the wrinkles, if I was for a project. It was just for training
