Summer in the SETI

I was a little taken aback that SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) uses private sector PC distributed processing to cull the data taken from radio telescopes. You can "loan" your computer's free cycles at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/.

But what this means is that if we do make contact, extra-terrestrial life will have access to our PCs' Internet connection, and that means email. As Albert Einstein might've said in this century, "There are three constants in the universe--the speed of light, bureaucratic stupidity, and SPAM.

Here's what I anticipate by 2010.

It's not the delivery of SPAM that's slowly killing us but the unfulfilled promises they hold. Unfortunately, most of us haven't been able to develop the ability to detect hyperbole. For us, it's either true or it's not. It's an agonizingly slow and torturous death. Damn you clever humans! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Only if it was picked up on your hyperbolic dish. However, it's not a hyperbole (although, flying pigs might be).

That miasma you smell might be Gort. He's been consuming large quantities of beans, hard boiled eggs and beer to keep his methane levels up. It's not easy sharing a room with him.
