Magic Hand

I have two images that I'm trying to not simply meld into one, but rather make the top layer look like it's a light source.

Basically I'm trying to have glowing words on my hand.

And I feel like I've been hitting a brick wall

So here are the original images:



I kept going back to this filtered version of the symbol on the hand:


And here's my best attempt to make things look cool so far:


I'm liking the idea of white and purple in the glow I'm just not liking my own execution of it.

I'm looking for tips and tricks to make this look cool.
Because lets face it if you just show me a better finished product I'll still have no idea to to make the images I see in my head.

Try using a displacement map to make it follow the curves in the hand.
