I Want to Turn a Whale into Water

I'm working on a photoshop composition and I need to do some special effects, namely turning a whale into water. I found a similar picture of what I'm referring to where someone turned horses into hair. Here's what I mean:

So, is there any way I can have a similar effect with water such as with these flames:

    but with a whale?

This may help you, yes its a bottle and not a whale - but with a little imagination and some time you should be able to work out the differences WHALE TO WATER TUT

and I want to turn water into wine!

So do you want the whale coming out of the water like the horses come out of the hair? Or the other way around. I'm not quite visualizing your idea.

Thanks for the tutorial, Paul, but that isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Okay, maybe this image will help provide more understanding:

So, how does one go about creating this effect?

By the way, if you go hunting for where I found this picture, you'll notice that it actually is from a photoshop website, but it doesn't help me because it turns out that the guy who made the butterfly just did it from scratch out of water formations. As that probably can't be done with something as round and unshapely as a whale (without it just looking like a big blob), I want to see if I can somehow take the picture of an actual whale and convert it to water to get a similar effect as shown above.

That's a cool tutorial, the water elemental. A little hard to follow here and there but with time, patience, and rereading... lol! And then again, it might just be me (written vs. visual learning)
