Well, we don't know for sure if it'll only work under Jaguar...ThinkSecret may be wrong about that, plus it's fairly early in the dev cycle and things could change.

Personally, (and I'll know I'll get some disagreement on this) I think it's a good idea, at the point when PS 8 does come out, to make it OS X only on the Mac side. There's a certain point where developers should do that; you can't support old OS's forever, nor support dual, very different OS's on one platform. Plus, if they develop a lot features that specifically take advantage of OSX, they'd need to rewrite the app almost completely for OS9. It's certainly nothing new; PS 7 won't run on anything earlier than 9.1 on the Mac.

I know you were kidding, but honestly?

I do not WANT Adobe to upgrade, and certainly not for the sole reason of being more compatible with digital cameras. What: we'll now have the OS, the manufacturer's utilities and Photoshop competing for what downloads the images from chip saddle (or umbilical cord) to the computer?

No, I do not welcome this for the sole reason that I've finally got my head around teaching online, and if this is true...and I think it is...I will have to stop writing on this forum for almost three months doing research and writing.

The filter layers thing sounds interesting to me, too, Gauss.

Any AfterEffects users out there who know what this is? I have a vague idea of what it could be, but I don't want to start speculating. Such things gain a life of their own on the Internet, and my musings may morph into a "trusted Adobe source says"

yay! I want photoshop 8 now! I'm still dtuck with 6, and waz ganna buy an upgrade at costco but i waited to long to decide and now it's all gone [shocked] I hope there's an upgrade from 6 to 8!

Yup, agree Gary. With all the research and testing that goes into writing a tutorial book, you'll go nuts with no time for anything else. But when the time comes that you have to, I know you find enjoyment in it and guys like us appreciate your hardwork.

Hmmm... this all sounds very interesting, but, in the end, I have to agree with Erik, inasmuch as, just as I'm getting my feet wet with PS7, you'd have to do a damn good "sell job" on me to get me to pay more $'s for (maybe?) a couple of new features that I may not even have a chance to discover or appreciate or get used to, until version 9 comes out...

I hope that, for the sake of folks like Gary etal (and users like myself), that Adobe sticks to their 18 month dev cycle! Only time will tell, whereas 'speculation' is part of the here and now...

My take on some of the new features (I see digital camera support as unwanted and inevitable

we'll finally be rid of that damned sRGB that is the default in versions 6 and 7. Digital cameras have a larger color space than film (or at least a different space, depending on make and manufacturer) so I'm supposing Adobe will either have to deploy a special instance of CIELAB to cover overlapping color spaces...or wouldn't it really be nice (and welcome) to have a Color space wizard that will dialog box the user through the native color space of digital film into Web Space, printing space, inkjet space, and so on.

Just postulating here.
