3d max exports are wrong dimensions

Hi, I'm building a site for a client, and have been getting rendered exports of 3d studio max files in JPEG format. I've asked for the jpegs to be large, like 1920 x 1080 pixels at 72 dpi. The 3D Studio Max guy says he's done it, but when he send the files, they're always the same: 650 x 400 pixels.

Does anyone know why this is? What can I tell him so the exports are right?

    Thanks so much.

How is he sending you the files? Is it possible that the image host or his email client is resizing them for smaller file sizes? Ask him to check the image size after exporting from 3DS Max and see if they match up.

Hi there, I will check and double check that with him. However, do you know about how to specify the dimensions of exported files from 3D Max? That would really be helpful too. Thanks!

It depends on how he is rendering/exporting the scene. There's a number of tools to do it.

You're going to lose alot of quality if your at 1920x1080 and lowering it to 72 dpi. 72 dpi @ 1920x1080 simply makes no sense but to answer your question you could render out the max file as a .png file, put it in photoshop and just save as a jpeg. This alone will cause lower quality on top of wanting to use only 72 dpi.

oh, and once you've saved it as a jpeg
-open a new file @ 1920x1080 with 72 dpi setting
-drag saved jpeg onto the 72 dpi slot and save again...
