    "Whitewash" effect in Photoshop

I want to know how to create a "whitewash" effect in photos (especially of faces) similar to this photo:

If I simply desaturated and increase brightness, I lose detail/shadows in faces such as around the nose/mouth. Also I guess I need to even out skin tone so all the skin looks white... any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Yes, desaturate. Then do a Ctrl +l (levels adjust) and play with the settings. If want to apply these changes only in certain areas, select it first.

That is of course, your humble opinion.
Did you forgot that this is the "newbie" forum? or you forgot to tell us why curves are better than levels in this particular case?

try to use black and white conversion if you're using cs3 or cs4 and play with the differents channels until you get the desirable result.
