    Unlocking

    Hello again,

Was going to open a project that I had saved and try and change some colors etc. but their is a lock on it, is there any way to unlock this and view all of the different layers that are in it?

There are about 4 layers of text, a pic and a logo or two on it.

I have also noticed that some of these get to a locked position when you are actually doing the initial work to them.

Last question for now is this, Is there a way to save the work you have done on a project and when you open it back up it is unlocked and ready to work on the layers again?

    Thank You

Are you saying that when you open an existing PS file all the layers are locked, that is, they have the little padlock icon next to each layer?

    Re: Unlocking

Steve, Thanks for the reply. What I was talking about was I had saved a project as a jpeg and decided to mess with the colors some more but when I went to open it there was a lock on it and it didn't show any layers. LOL you did just answer one question for me and that is how to save if you might want to work on it later and that is in a PS file.

Like I said a little pushed to do a few things so probably asking more questions than I should but it is what it is.

Anyway to unlock something that is saved other than a PS file and work on the layers?

    Thanks again

Right, always save your file as a PSD or a TIFF file to preserve the layers.
When saving as a jpg you flatten the image.
If you need a jpg use Save As filename.jpg

In most cases when you open a non layered image the single layer is called Background and it's locked.

    Re: Unlocking

Steve, Thank you for the info it's one other little step lol. I have the trial version and have 26 days left to make up my mind and if I get comfortable enough with it I will get it. I want to as it is kind of fun in some ways to make things but when each step takes so long to figure out...and you can't remember how you just did it lol...it is kind of a drag.

    Again, Thank You

The possibilities for ps are endless. Adobe probably makes the best graphic software around. You should be saving your files as a PSD or as Steve said a TIFF in any case I have been using ps for over a year and before that I used ps elements. I am still a beginner. The more you use it the more you can learn. There are tons of tutorials for beginners everywhere on the internet. Try some of those to get to know photoshop before you make your decision. You can always come here and ask us if a tutorial stumps you.

Carrie56, lol yes I can see that there are so many and thus the spinning head. When I get a couple of more things done...They are very basic but for me not...I will be able to do things in a more orderly fashion. I have never ever used any kind of program for art or photography or anything like this so it's all new to me.

    Thanks for the comments
