Saving PDF in CMYK for printing

When I save my flyer as PDF in CMYK mode the finished outcome when previewed (not in Photoshop) has a washed out, pale look to it. Just wondering if this is normal, and if I send this PDF off to the printers the finished print wont resemble this washed out, pale look I'm experiencing when I preview the file...

Can someone please shed some light?

    Thank you in advance,

    Luca

You've decreased the the number of available colors significantly by converting to CMYK.
What kind of printer are you printing to?
