Try uninstalling, then using the CS4 clean script... it will remove all traces of CS4 from your computer.... then try a clean install.

Sorry about that, the uninstall took quite some time.

At the very end of the uninstall, the program said "Some problems occured while components were being removed. Please see below."

But the only thing below was the Exit button, so I clicked that. I am about to go run the clean script now.

Thank you, and I hope you have a pleasant night!

Ok, the clean up script won't run. I downloaded the file, unzipped it to an appropriate location. I followed the detailed instructions included in the folder contents. Adobe Reader seems to be working now but won't allow me to print (not that that has anything to do with anything, *chuckle*).

Apparently this is because I do not have Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. However, Microsoft has gotten rid of that program as of June 2010 and I cannot download it now from their website.

So....any other ways I can clean up? Should I just go delete all the folders/files for Adobe? Is there another place I can get the Cleanup Utility from?

Edit: I just found I can download the Clean Up utility on Major Geeks. I have never downloaded anything from there before. Does anyone have any experience with Major Geeks? Are they safe to download from?

This is a link to the Windows Cleanup tool you are looking for , I think you said you needed this and then it would run the Photoshop CS4 clean up tool, well this is what I think it is, as youy can see it's from microsoft, this will be shown when you load up the tool, befoer you let it run.

You will also have to run in adminitartor mode, this may not need to be done in Win XP.

I thought I would pop down to see it you posted back, so that my help there

I hope you deactivated PS before you un-installed it
You're only allowed 2 installations and then it won't activate again.

In your first post you said you reset the preferences file.
You did that by starting PS while holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Shft keys right?

Oh, crap. No, I didn't deactivate it. I'm pretty much screwed now, right? *sigh*

I'm going to let my virus scan finish and then try and install it...I can't believe I forgot to deactivate it. I KNEW to do that but it totally slipped my mind.

And yes, that is how I reset the preferences.

KRF - thanks. I ran both Win Cleanup Utility and then the Adobe cleanup utility, as soon as I finish the virus scan I will try and reinstall it - but it probably won't work, since I forgot to deactivate it last time I tried the reinstall AND this time. So I've already had my two installs.

Guess I will be buying Photoshop. Again. *chuckle*

    Thanks for all the help.
