Big sized files won't merge adjustments

I have a file that has the resolution 3500x3500 px. First I have a black background and then I have added some noise and now I'm going to adjust it with levels. I open up the dialog box from the menu and make the changes with preview and I can see the changes being made but when I press "Ok" it goes right back to like it was before. No changes being made. Same thing happens when I use an adjustment on a layer and try to merge the layers it goes back to how it was without the adjustment. But if I use a smaller resolution, 1000x1000 px, it all works.
Why doesn't if work for a bigger resolution?

    Thank you for your help!

    That's not enough information.

    Some noise?
How, with that tool, what were the settings?
    Did the noise settings work?

    Adjust it with Levels?
Same questions, what did you do, what kind of adjustment?

The more detail you supply the more accurate the answer.

With that said I'm guessing you're not using a levels adjustment layer (good idea non-destructive).
    You're using Image|Adjustments|Levels (bad idea destructive) .

sounds like a memory issue wiyth the bigger size although I would think it would crash and not revert back, check ram?

    Steve:
Some noise = the Add Noise filter. Filter > Noise > Add Noise.
The noise settings I used was Amount: 17%, Gaussian, Monochromatic.

I put the Adjustment Levels on these settings: 11, 0.19, 125.

I tried with both. As I tried to explane I used both the destructive and the non-destructive method of adjusting the Levels value. When I used an levels adjustment layer it reverts back to the way it was before the levels adjustments layer was added when I merge the noise layer with the levels adjustment layer.

    iDad:
About 400 mb of RAM is free and unused when I have Ps up and makes the adjustments.

Re: Big sized files won't merge adjustments

I created a 3500X3500 and filled it with black.
Added noise, then used the pull down menu and used you're levels settings, no problem

I did the same thing using a levels adjustment layer, and then flattened (merged) the layers, no problem.

I don't know why your having this issue.

Re: Big sized files won't merge adjustments

Hi there! I have a workaround for this very issue. Open a new layer above your current layer stack(i.e. create a layer and put it at the top of the list). Select that new empty layer and press Ctrl Alt Shift E. It copies all visible pixels onto a single layer and avoids issues that come up with blending modes mixing up layer merges. Cheers!
