Type on a Path problems

Hi all,

The way I actually found this site was that someone else had asked exactly the same question I have, but never got an answer. In CS 5.5, I'll create a curved path with the pen tool. When I click on it with the type tool, however, a little circle is also created on the path. That circle forms the limit of the space where it's possible to type. After that point, it's impossible to type fully along the path - I can only type up to the circle. I don't seem to remember having this problem with other versions. This is probably something that can be solved very easily, but I'm all out of ideas. All advice appreciated!
