FastStone Capture for Windows
Photoshop CS2 limits you to make a complete screen copy only and not a copy of an individual window or smaller object. I used Snagit as an alternative, but it used too many resources and has lots of options we Photoshop users never tend to use. It's also not free.
FastStone Capture however is: http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm
Note that it's only available for Windows. It uses very little resources (I have it running all the time), never crashes and is easy to use. It can capture windows, full screens, selections, even has an editor. Output can be redirected to clipboard, file, printer or internal editor. Now when I press Alt+PrintScreen I'm able to copy anything I want. It can even capture scrolling windows, like web pages, so you can make a screen copy of a complete page. Great tool.?

Re: FastStone Capture for Windows
Hi Gaussian--
A couple of questions about Faststone capture if you don't mind. I do not see a difference between the capture toolbar icon for Capture Window/object and capture Full screen. Would you mind explaining?
Thanks,
Mark

I haven't used for quite a spell...... Capture windows object will take a shot of what ever window you have open... webpage, PS gui, folders... even if you've minimized the view size of these (ie. half your screen). Capture Full Screen is what it is... Full Screen... no matter what size your monitor is.
A good tool most especially if you are preparing tute images for posting... you don't have to take a full screenshot, crop, and all that....

Re: FastStone Capture for Windows
I'm still up in the air on this thing. Frankly, I don't really get the difference between alt-prtsc and shift-prtscrn (in FastStone terms). The alt is the only clear choice since it strictly goes to the active point of the screen--whatever you've first clicked. But the sht option says active window. Well, if I click on a chunk of the screen that's the active window but that's then the alt option!
The problem is there's no support site since the company is tiny and the documentation is < good.

Didn't make myself clear that time.... lol...
Yes, ALT+PrntScrn captures your active open window (But that's all)..... SHIFT+PrntScrn can also capture the open window, but if you move your cursor, it can even select smaller parts in the window..... take this as an example as to why I find it useful when making tute images.....
... see, it selected the blur controls....
..... Like I said, webpage, folder, Apps GUI..... whatever window is open.... in fact even if you have multiple windows open, if you float the cursor around, you can select any of the open windows in view. It will even select the smaller parts of a folder - menu, address & search fields, folder view field.......
