I've been practicing retouching, trying to have a better eye for lighting and color with portraits mainly, using DeviantArt stocks as bases.

Here are some of the ones I have done lately.

I mainly used color balance and level adjustments on these.

Those look good :) Have you tried playing with Curves instead of levels?

On the last image, I think it would help if her hand matched the rest of her skin tone ;)

I have dabbled with curves, haven't quite mastered them yet though. I see what you mean about the hand!

Blogfreakz suggestion to try the "selective color" tool is excellent. Although one can reduce overly red skin (such as in your last example) by many methods, the selective color tool is often the simplest / quickest way and provides very nice looking results, much like you accomplished.
