Hi civicesi, I think you have a bit too much blue in the night version. The lights glow (minus the blue) and reflected light looks pretty good though.

This is really pretty awesome. Would't mind attempting this myself. Any advice on where to start?

start with a good sharp focused building, if possible with artificial lights in the picture and a non cloudy sky. You need to make layer for the PP lightings and starry skies. In PS go to adjustment layer>color lookup for presets of tone. Good luck.
