Hello all,

Can anybody tell me why the histogram for a gradient is not flat, as I guess it should be? Or, how to make a gradient that results in a flat histogram (that is, with the same number of pixels for each level)? The screen capture annexed should clarify the subject. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Marcus.

Sure, but how to make it look flat in the histogram? Or gradients in Photoshop are just like that?

Check out my post http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...98-smooth-displacement-effect.html#post119864

One way to make clean black to white gradient:
Make Index color mode document, go to Image->Mode->Color Table dialog, choose Grayscale pallete and save it as a ACT file on disc. Find this file on disc and change it's extension to RAW.
Now open this file as raw image in PS. In Open dialog set Width - 256, Height - 1, Inteleaved - checked.
Now change the size of this image to 256x256 with Image->Image Size.
