Mystery Black shadow

Why is it that when i paint with my brush i get a black surrounding shadow ?



(I have pointed the white arrow on tat portion)

on that layer there is an effect "drop shadow"

Like colleague said.....

Whatever you add on it - even a brush stroke - will have a shadow. Do additions on a new layer.

Thanks guys, I figured that was what it was. He posted at 1:30am, I responded at 1:37am. He did not respond back until 2:48am. I got tired of waiting and went to bed.
