I have this Cheese image which is sliced worm-shape. I want to know how to fragment/break it into pixel sized pieces, to look like sand. Pixellate might be a way, but it also applies a lot of new colors which are very different from the original size. And also Pixellate is not the smallest way possible.

You have an image of Parmesan cheese, you speak of a sliced worm shape.............and pixels. I apologize for my lack of understanding!

Thank you for the reply!
The Cheese when is grated, it has two kind of shape. One like this, as in my 1st picture, and one like "sand" , a much smaller pieces type. Dusted, let's say :)
My question, in general, is - how to apply an effect on an image, and give to it a sand-looking style? Effect? Pixellate filter makes it great, but it adds alot of different new colors to the object, so it is not worth it! If it just granulated the picture, without adding colors, it would have been awesome! I just need to Break it into almost pixel size pieces. Like this:

Have you looked at the Noise filter? Also in the Filter Gallery, there is the GRAIN filter.

if you are worried about the color then put a layer on top filled with 'yellow' and mode on 'color'
you can also put a mask on the parmesan , fill it with 50% grey and use filter noise on the grey
that wouldnt effect the color
