I'm not sure what this process is called so I couldn't even look up any tutorials.

I want to replace the text in an image with a different background/texture.

This is an example. I want to replace the white portion of the photo with a different photo or texture.

Hello and welcome to PSG.

Use Clipping masks.

Start with a BG....

Add a text layer above the BG........doesn't matter what color it is...

Then add a texture of your liking on a new layer above the text.

Right click the texture layer and choose "Create Clipping Mask"....

This will fill the text with the texture layer.....

Keep adding clipped texture layers to the stack. Add as many as you want.
The texture layer on top will be seen.

Well...........this might work if you were only using gradients...........or patterns (which you would have to load into your patterns).........or just a solid color overlay.

But if your trying to add say..................a water texture, the clipping mask is a much better choice.
