I am trying to "coat" an image in a translucent color in order to make Text accross the image to stand out. All of the instruction that i have found thus far is either out of date, or to assuming of my photoshop knowledge... PLEASE help, its for my wedding this weekend and im getting exhausted trying to finish all of the details

It would help if we knew what you've already tried, or better still, images to show what you have and what you are trying to achieve.

Use screenshots if it helps, particularly of your layers panel so we can see what you are doing, at the moment your request is open to too much interpretation.

Regards.

Ok...and whats your question?

What isn't working for you?

This is my version of that tutorial.

Here is my image. This will be my bottom most layer or base layer or original layer.

The first step is to create a new layer by clicking the new layer icon located at the bottom of the layers panel.

Name the new layer “color-overlay”.

Next, choose the Eye Dropper Tool.

Select an area from you image that contains a color you would like to use as your overlay color.
Here, I will sample the yellow color from the Jose Quervo label...

Notice that my foreground color has now changed to the sampled color.

Make sure that your color overlay layer is highlighted/selected.
Then hit Alt/Option + delete on your keyboard.

Your image will turn the color that you sampled, in my case yellow.

The color sample layer in your layers panel should also be yellow.

Now with the color overlay layer still highlighted/selected, click on the master opacity arrow to bring up the opacity slider.
Slide the opacity down until your happy with the image.

This is about 35% opacity.........
