How do I duplicate the effect of the red layer under the text?

I've gotten my text as far as the white outline (stroke) but I'm lost how to create the red layer beneath (I tried to duplicate the text layer and add stroke but it didn't look like this).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It would be great to have the PSD file to work on before making suggestions....is that possible?

OK.

With a duplicate of the text, fill with the colour you need.
Stroke the text and then use 'Step and repeat' to create the depth.

Create your text and give it a color.

Create a new layer below the text layer.
Make a selection of the text.
Go to SELECT > MODIFY > EXPAND enter 10px.
Fill this selection with white. It will look like a stroke.

Create a new layer below the White layer.
Make a selection of the white text.
Go to SELECT > MODIFY > EXPAND enter 10px.
Fill this selection with Red. It will look like another stroke.

Select the red layer.
Hold down the shift + alt/option + Cmd/Cntrl keys, hit the down arrow once, hit the right/left arrow once......continue this until your happy.

The other option for the 3D extrusion would be to use Ps's 3D engine if you have it.
