Good question, MrTom .....

My understanding during the award setup phase was CONTEST meant special or seasonal official PSG organized "contests". We may have to look into it again and decide whether "CONTESTS" and CHALLENGES are 2 separate categories or whether it should be considered as one so it can include points for challenges won.

There's also the possibility that the calculation setting for it wasn't set-up yet.

The contest points in your screenshot of vbactivity are for "contests" as defined within vbactivity. They are contests that can be run to see who can accumulate the most activity points within a set time period, unrelated to the Photoshop challenges that are being discussed here.

The awards you see on profiles are pretty simple, they are created and given out manually by admins and that's really all there is to it.

Achievements are calculated by criteria such as post count, number of threads started, likes received or given, etc. and are given out automatically based on users meeting the criteria.

This was covered in the announcement here.

We haven't used vbactivity contests yet, but if you're interested to read on how they work there is documentation available here. We may decide to run them in the future.

As you say, most things are easy to understand but some of it, without explanation, is just gobble-d-gook...for eg:

"Points for Infraction Points (Received)"
"Points For [DBTech] DragonByte Gallery Uploads"

Is it just me then that has no idea what these mean?
I hope the member who received those Infraction points appreciates them! :biglaff:

thanks , forgot about the awards , been busy with traditional photography the last year or two , used to shoot a lot in the film days and bought myself a nikon d7100 having a ball rediscovering photography

How far back . . . We started the challenges in 2011 (I believe) through 2012, then started anew each year. These have been a lot of fun and brought in a lot of participation; a boon to the Forum.

Does anyone remember the Out of Bounds Challenge? Maybe it's time to do that one again!

I'm looking forward to more challenges to come.


(My thanks to those who had to pick up the slack when I was due to make one but couldn't at the time.)


Here's the link for the OOB if you're interested. I didn't remember starting it, but the idea came from IamSam and Orangzeb (AKA Evil Nemesis.)

So you got them all? Good sleuthing. IDK why I thought there were more . . . Hardening of the arteries? 29 is quite a few!

There were other challenges over the years but not under the PSG Challenge line and initiated by members like ALB68, chrisdesign, Paul etal. Most were like activity projects with no winners....
