We are pleased to announce that some major new features for the forum rolling out today.

Photoshop Gurus Forum now has a system for Activity Points, Levels, Achievements, Awards, and Trophies. These will be displayed on user profiles and posts in the forum, along with a leaderboard.

You may have already noticed some new Achievement or Award badges on your profile along with some activity points and a level bar.

What are all these things? I'll briefly explain each component here to help make sense of the overall system. You can also check out the Activity tab in the main menu for more information and to browse the current available achievements and awards.

  • Activity Points add up to make "levels" for users. You can "level up" by earning activity points. Points are earned by doing just about anything on the forum - making posts, starting threads, uploading attachments, giving and receiving likes/thanks, and pretty much anything else you can do here all give points. All new users start at level 1. Your current level is displayed on your profile and under your avatar on any posts you make.

  • Achievements are automatically awarded to users who reach or "complete" a target criteria that is required to earn the achievement. For example, there is an achievement for making 10 posts and another for starting 10 threads. All the achievements have badges which are displayed on user profiles. Achievements to have multiple levels. After you earn the 10 posts Achievement, there is another one for 50 posts, then another one for 200 posts, and so on. Each time a new achievement level is earned, the badge is replaced with a new one on your profile. There is a hierarchy of badge color and shape used for all Achievements. They start out with a green circle, then a blue circle, and so on all the way up to a gold shield which is currently the highest badge. Each category of achievement or award will have a different icon displayed on these badges.

  • Awards are similar to Achievements in that they also have badges that are displayed on user profiles, but Awards are given out manually and not automatically awarded based on criteria. Awards will be given out to users who earn them based on criteria that cannot be automatically calculated such as winning a contest or recognition for a particular skill or contribution to the forum.

  • Trophies are more dynamic, they are temporarily given to the user with the current highest number of points in categories like Overall Activity Points, Posts, Threads Started, Likes Received, Likes Given, etc. When a new user holds the highest points, the trophy will transfer to them. Some trophies are displayed as small icons next to user names, other trophies are not displayed but can be tracked on the Trophies section of the Activity page.

These features are meant to be a fun way to reward everyone for activity and encourage participation.

Please keep in mind that the current Achievements and Awards you see are subject to change as we iron out any kinks in the new system, add new levels, refine the badge icons, and find the best criteria targets. New Achievements, Awards, and Trophies will be added in the future.

As always, if you have any questions or comments about these new features you are welcome to post them here.

Can they be turned off?

As in displayed that is, as in a preference setting.

The reason being is that each single post was already too long and is now even longer....even when everything is collapsed.

I can no longer Read the post I'm replying to without having to scroll up and down all the time which is a right PITA.

Being able to read the post I'm replying to at the same time as typing in the quick reply box is pretty important.

Regards.
