Hello,

I want to create the replica of the Yellow Brick Road from the Wizard of the Oz.

more like this: http://blog.beeminder.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/ybr-big.jpg

I want red part to be relatively slimmer than the yellow part.

I already tried to create a spiral from pattern tools something like this happened: http://i59.tinypic.com/t7y7wp.jpg

I also tried to use twirl effect to get the effect : http://i58.tinypic.com/219s4yo.jpg

As I said I want to have broader yellow part and slimmer red part. Is there a way to get that effect?

Thank you for your considerarion

I would go with illustrator

1 ellipse
1 spiral tool (edit with width tool so 1 end is thinner than the other etc)
1 polar grid tool

then fine tune

My solution isn't Photoshop but merely something I have to point out...

I don't use Illustrator much but as Hoogle has shown, it can be done. With a bit more tweaking, you may get the look you want.

There is an advantage to knowing the use of other vector applications as it empowers you to do more. Hand in hand with Photoshop, that's design power at your fingertips....

This was done in Corel Draw. If you need the AI file for import into PS, I can share it for you to fiddle around with.

Another option is to open your brick road image in PS and on a new layer, trace the path shape with the Pen tool adjusting it to suit your liking.

For the bricks, create stripes filled/tiled with bricks and use polar coordinate filter to create circular brick pattern to texture map the path. Something like this but on a much larger size canvas image, and more thinner stripes with bricks tiled horizontally in them....

When done, position and maintain the image's center at the starting point of the brick path. You may have to use perspective distort or warp distort to get the look right.
