Hey!

Try this...........

Create a type layer.
Create a new layer below the type layer. Highlight this layer. Name it "Expanded text".

Make a selection of of the type by placing your cursor on the type (T) icon and clicking.

Turn off the original text layer.
On the 'Expanded type" layer. Fill that selection with black.

Go to SELECT > MODIFY > EXPAND > I used 25px.

The selection will now look like this.

Now fill it again with black.

Hit Cmd/Cntrl + D to deselect.

Turn on the original text layer.
You should now have your expanded text!

There are other ways, such as stroking the text, but I like this way so I can use a clipping mask to add any texture I want.

Here is how you would clip a texture layer to the expanded text layer.

Thank you so much. I've done the first part but I am confused as to how you clipped the texture to it?

No problem.

Don't forget you can add a layer style to the "expanded text" layer with drop shadows and other effects.

As well as the text layer..........
