Hello. I just registered here in order to ask you this:

I found on another forum people making some AMAZING piece of art in Photoshop such as this:

xmas.png

realize.png

armaros.png

These are not only ones, but usually you can simply write the name you want, and which color/flag/whatever to be filled across all letters.

I'm just interested, how to do that in Photoshop?

I really wanna learn to do that. I think it's so useful and I can even play with that a bit.

Please help. Thank you all for help in advance.

Got your back here mate...

Follow the steps to achieve.

Step 1

Load up a image of your choice. I chose this lovely city scape.

Step 2

Duplicate the 1st layer by pressing ctrl + j

Step 5

Trickish bit. Highlight the background copy layer, then press ctrl + left click the thumbnail of the text layer. You will see the text has been selected. Then press ctrl + j.

Step 6

Now lets do a stroke around the text by double left clicking on the newly found text layer with the cool background. Select stroke and choose size and position.

Step 7

Your done.

Ive added a background for effect. But you will be able to add yours to whatever background you choose.

Oh, forgot to mention...

As your examples have lovely drop shadows. To further accomplish that, continue with the following.

Double left click the newly done text layer with the cool background, in the image provided it will be layer 1. Click drop shadow from the selection and play with the settings.

Again, your done.

Hey Inkz! Thanks a lot for such fast response on my question! I appreciate it a lot!

However, I got stuck a little bit.. I did everything good, everything until 5th Step where I'm supposed to get indented text with colors from background.

When you said to "Rasterize the text", on which command you meant exactly?

I clicked on this one:

3fxdWrL.png

I clicked right on that option and suddenly nothing changed!

IefE5dx.png

My text hasn't got filled with image and color from the background.

Just like you did that on this picture:

f418f409aeb43303d811ab1a9493b223.png

I'm really confused and I don't know what to do.. Uh

Additional question: Does it depends on which version of Photoshop I use? I'm currently running Photoshop CC 2015. Is that good one and which is the best Ps version so far? Thanks a lot for your effort to help me, Inkz!

Ok..

On the last image you sent, click on background copy so it's highlighted. The press ctrl + left click the thumbnail image of the text layer. This should select the text layer but still being on the background copy layer. Then press ctrl+J to get it done.

UKLZ,

Don't worry. You didn't do anything wrong. When you rasterize type, nothing in your image will visibly change. But it makes your text (letters) more editable, and allows you to do things like Inkz shows you in steps 5, 6, and 7.
