Font Problem in photoshop cs6,please help

I have a font I would like to use within photoshop but the £ sign always reverts back to default font,the font i am trying to use does have the £ sign but just won't work,any suggestions please TYIA...
also attached is a picture of what is happening...

maybe there is something im doing wrong?
here is a link to the font i'm trying to use its the one called super mario bros down the page a little,he does say all keyboard characters are used except for lower case,

I am sorry to say - I dont think that the £ is used in that font.

I downloaded the font and tried it in Word and as you can see the £ was replaced with a standard word font.

Usually if a character doesn't show then it's not included in the font.

If you look at the character map for that font you'll find that the pound sign is not included.

How much do you need to use the £ sign - and is it critical that it is part of the font? It would be a very simple job to create a £ in exactly the same style and then to save it as a symbol.

You could also investigate something like this https://fontforge.github.io/en-US/ which is an open source font editor - you could then add a £ to the font set.
