Miracle, miracle! I just reinstalled my video driver and things as good as before!
Phew! What an exercise it was! I thank each and every member who contributed to it.

Would backing up and restoring your computer to the time when it was still functional work? Just back up recent before your restore.?????

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, but I have very little faith on Windows and System Restore. Reinstalling my video driver solved this for me, so I'm happy.
