Photoshop glitch?

I have been using a technique to remove chromatic aberrations in PS cc 2017 (Ctrl+J, Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur, change layer option to 'color', add a mask, and finally Ctrl+I).

It has been working beautifully until recently. Photoshop froze on me the other night and the only way I could exit out of Photoshop was CTRL+ALT+DELETE and close down my computer. After I recovered PS, my chromatic aberration removal technique no longer worked. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling PS but it did not fix the problem. I'm thinking perhaps a setting got changed somewhere but I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Any ideas? Any help appreciated!

Because you are using a recent version of Photoshop there is an option on the main preferences page to reset all the preferences on a restart of photoshop. Preferences are on the edit menu.
