    But why ? I would expect the stroke is part of the layer so it, at least in my opinion, should be affected by clipping mask as anything else in the layer. What am I missing ?

    I think it is because they are not drawn there but created by Stroke in Layer Style ( double click on layer icon in Layers window ).
