    Interesting effects in watercolour

    NB - I take no credit for this one! My wife paints watercolours and sometimes produces some interesting effects. This is one of them. The "coral" effect at bottom right is created by scattering salt on the wet paint. Thought you might like to try the idea in Photoshop (or Painter?).

    Wacom and other tablets: which to get?

    I'm thinking of getting one of these drawing tablets - but thought I'd ask you all about them. Plenty of reviews in magazines, but I'd rather hear from people using them everyday. Who here uses which tablet? What do you recommend? NB I use a G5 Mac running OSX (10.4.6)

    True Type, OpenType and Type 1 - all for free - at http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/steffmann/index.htm and if you click on designers when you've finished downloading all those you fancy, you'll find a page of other designers and their fonts (some free).

    Software offers

    Got this email the other day. I've always paid full price for my software and don't need any of the stuff this lot are advertising. Question: how can they offer PS7 so cheap? Is it legal? What they offer is the software download and the key. No box no book etc.

    animated avatar size

    I thought I might try an animated avatar and played around with my cat picture in ImageReady. But the smallest (optimised) I can make it is 62K and the limit for avatars here is 10K. Is it possible to "squash" it in some way? or is it as low as it can be? Here:
