Can't update Camera RAW

I know this is super common question and problem but all the solutions I see offered either do not apply or don't fix my issue. I used to be a regular photographer and Photoshop user but I stepped away from it for a couple of years. I sold my camera equipment and have not opened my PS for a long time. I recently decided to take up photography again and bought a very basic camera (Canon T5).

Upon trying to open files in CR, I get the error message "Camer RAW editing is not enabled, Camera Raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been...blah blah" I know that CR has to be updated to be compatible with my new camera. The T5 requires 8.4 minimum. Mine is 7.0.0.708 in CS6 ver.13.0x64 Incidentally, I can not seem to open CR files from my old archives either.

Anyhow most of the solutions I have found tell me to go here https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html#9_8 and update but I get another error message every time. "Unable to expand zip file into downloads-Error 2 no such file or directory". I also do not seem to have the Adobe updater anymore either. The little icon that should be on my Mac OS X 10.12 menu bar.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Newcyote and welcome to the forum.

I am a windows user rather than a Mac user so I can only offer general suggestions.

Looking on the web I found this page that, although it states that CS6 will handle ACR V9.2, suggests that there are problems with that version on some versions of OSX. Have a look at this page and look ant note 5 near the bottom of the page. https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html#main_Note_5

I could only find this page - which says it is for the DNG converter and ACR v8.2, but I havent tried it. https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5646&fileID=5658

Not sure if this helps - I hope you get sorted.

Cheers

John

Thank you for trying to help but the links you provide are the exact ones I say I keep getting refer to that do not work. Any of the installers I download from there will not extract.

OK have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling PS

Take a look here
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

You can download PS6 from here
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html

Update from here
https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5448&fileID=5527

After that try running the Camera Raw update from above links

Maybe someone from here that uses a MAC could try downloading ACR from that link above to see if it will extract, at least that way we can verify if it works
