How to change the black background to white behind the glowing bulb?

Please check this image and suggest, i have Adobe Photoshop CS5. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not a professional but possess some knowledge of photoshop.

Here you go..... create a new layer on top of the image , fill whith white and set the mode to saturation.....

Hi,

I do not want to change the yellowish rays of light, it should be retained as is whilst the dark background should be turned into white. would that be possible?

Do you mean delete the canvass back ground so to have only the bulv and yellor/orange glows?
