Illustrator How to convert a vector to black and white?

I assume you mean gray scale when you say B&W.
Try recolor artwork. Select the neutral library and then Grays. Set the number of colors, in this case I used 1.

I need to print it on a tee, so the least colors, the better.

What is the neutral library? :)

I don't seem to have it...

First let me apologize, it's been a while since I used that. The gray-scale isn't found in neutral. Use the Swatches panel and select the Default Swatches - Basic RGB.

When you open recolor you should see that group on the right side of the panel.

Select Grays in the right panel, set the number of colors, check recolor art, click ok.
