Tips on achieving 1950s pin-up effect?

Hello there

Would anyone be able to kindly suggest any methods/tips/tutorials on how to achieve a 1950s painted pin-up effect? I am hoping to recreate a series of photos in the style of Gil Elvgren:



So far I have been unsuccessful in finding any appropriate or advanced enough tutorials that give me the desired effects.

Any help would be immensely appreciated!

There's a lot of methods to achieve this effect, but i found one that i consider pretty use full

Pin-up Effect

After that you can improve result by applying some artistic filter like watercolor, dry brush, etc

If you want a painted effect Corey's method is about the best one I've seen. Also fair chance you can pick up some tips on how to create "old style" from Retouch PRO. You don't need to register to search and read. Just if you want to post.
