Hello,

let me explain my situation. Outdated web store is located in public_html/shop.php , while new Opencart store resides in public_html/shop/.

Links look like this for old store: http://www.old-domain.com/shop.php?cat1=first_category&kat=chocolate
And for new Opencart store: http://www.new-domain.com/index.php?route=common/home
New Opencart store can also be accessed by http://www.old-domain.com/shop/, but only index page, because all links are pointed to http://www.new-domain.com

As you may see, domain name for new web store is different, which is why I'm afraid that Google will treat it like a completely new web store and thus that my ranking in search results will drastically degrade.

I was wondering how to make complete redirect from old to new store and tell Google to retain current website ranking? Do you perhaps have any other suggestions? Thanks!

just keep your old website up and in the <head> add
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.yournewdomain.com/index.html">

Yes that suggestion can re-use your old site's traffic.

But I don't think your new domain will have any rating if you specifically check the new name or rank in Google or Alexa.

Site ratings are not transferable. If you want to specifically get a good rate on your new domain name, you will have to build that from scratch, e.g. changing all the external links and ads to your new domain, changing any affiliates and adwords compaigns to the new domain etc and drive new traffic as well as your old traffic to the new domain.

The meta tag REFRESH will do this for you. This meta tag will retain Google ranking and as a result traffic for you. 301 redirect will only help in redirecting the URL to new domain.

I think, redirect with .htaccess is better for SEO.
