    Great idea! Thanks Gaus!

For those who are using Windows, go to the Character Map Tool which will show all the different symbols in each font type and select, copy, then paste into Photoshop to create a custom shape. Many Fonts have more symbols then there are keys. Its a good way to quickly scan through what is available.

For example, I copied the copyright symbol from the arial font using the Character Map tool and created a custom shape from it for my Photoshop collection.

    Hundreds of Free Custom Shapes

Awhile ago i actually created a cool Action that will automatically type out any chosen font, convert to vector shapes, and save them as a new vector group.

The only thing the user has to do is create the first type layer. Then just run the Action and Voila! You're prompted to change the font to the one you want, and at the end of the process to clean up the group before it gets saved. The whole process only takes a couple minutes. ;)

When i do this kind of thing, i empty my library first so that the new group isn't mixed with any others. I've made the Action do this for you automatically.
I name the group using the name of the font -- i.e. "WingDings font set".

There's instructions within the Action. And if a fontset doesn't have characters for all keys, the Action will simply stop with a standard error window. No problem though. Close the error message and save your new group like usual.

I have more than a dozen of them now.

Anyone wanna try the Action out? :B

    Ok, here it is.
Just throw the .atn file into your Adobe/Photoshop 7/Presets/Actions folder... or where ever you keep your own Actions.

Let me know if anyone has trouble with it.

NOTE: take note that there are 3 separate Actions within this set that need to be run:

    1) creating type layers for every key on the keyboard
    2) converting every type layer to a vector shape layer
    3) saving each layer into the shapes library

You will run each one one-at-a-time. Right after each other. I could've made the Actions all run in one go, but thought that might be limiting for some people's purposes, and mine. Takes 2 seconds to start the next Action anywho so no big deal.

There are also 2 extra Actions included that are for converting/saving just single shapes. But the ones you need to use for the above process are the "- multiple" Actions.

Again though... any troubles let me know.
