How to apply an effect to a layer style

I need to apply a noise effect to glow style layer so I can make it look like the text is becoming charged with electricity. The text starts to glow and gets staticy, know what I mean? Every time I try to apply the effect, it applies noise to the text itself instead of the glow. Thanks

You should be able to isolate the effect to the glow only in the settings..

With that layer selected go to Layer, Layer Style, Create Layer. This will put the glow style on it's own layer, now use the noise filter on that layer.
