How to expand the background of an image?

As you can see, the image above has a plain grey background.

However, it is quite small, and I would like to expand the grey background until it is much bigger.

Also, there is white text between the red and green legs of the creatures. How do I remove that as well?

    Hello untra-noob.

If that's a flattened jpg, make layer from image. Enlarge image canvass to your liking. Create a new layer below the image, this will be your added background layer.

Use the color picker tool and click an area in the background. this will be assigned as your foreground color.

Make the new BG layer active (click layer in laters pallete) and fill with foreground layer. Flatten or save as Jpg.

    Hope this makes sense.

As for your text, use the clone tool with a small size brush.
