    Crop up vs resampling

Is cropping to a larger image the same thing as resampling...? I believe I was told it handled the information differently without adding extra pixels... is this true.?

Any method used to make an image larger than it's native dimensions adds pixels. The algorithms that determine where and how may differ depending on the program, but you are still adding pixels which did not exist in the original.

Using the image size function allows you to choose the method to get the best results depending upon what you are doing, while the crop tool only uses one method all the time. I believe it is bicubit smoother, but don't quote me.
