Last week, I got the idea to make some kind of ancient city overshadowing a body of water. So a few hours later, I came up with this image. Anyway, it is all custom work as I strive to never use stock images. I got a thing for originality. Little warning though, it is 1920x1080 resolution so it would fit comfortably on my 52" TV.
I think the idea is really cool, and I love the colours. However, few minor correction;
-I think the moon and the city need to be more integrated, they look more outstanding than the rest of the image. I guess a blur and more shading might do it?
-Also the horizon needs to curve ever so slightly, looks a little bit like it's chopping off the sky.
I want to start off by saying that the concept is very good, however, there are a few thing that don't look right.
- The planet/moon is in front of the clouds, which is impossible.
- the celestial body needs to be bright if there is going to be a glow from it.
- The city looks very cartoonish compared with the rest of the image, almost like all the different elements were done on different work spaces and then just slapped together, which is really noticable where the rocks meet the sea.
I don't want to sound too negative, and I do know that it is a work in progress, but feel there would be no improving the image until these things were sorted. I look forward to seeing how this images progress, and hope I haven't cheesed you off too much!
I would never be cheesed by thoughtful, and insightful critiques. That's the whole point behind them. On another forum I used to subscribe to, I got "You have strange tastes my man" as a response to this image. How uninspiring is that.
The color of the city makes it look Alien/futuristic instead of ancient. It also looks like it is floating on the cliffs instead of being built into it.
I like the moon but maybe put it lower on the horizon with a reflection in the water.
I would make the 'moon' a lot bigger and leave it this side the clouds, it is 'afterall' a futuristic/sci fi concept.
Just look to blend and play with light a little more, other than that i think it looks good.
Ok people, been working on everyone's suggestions. Most of the suggestions were done while others were not. Reason behind that is I'm doing an AfterEffects thing with this image so I didn't want to drift off too far from focus.
