    webwize's suggestion should work. you could also just duplicate your painting layer a couple times and try different layer blend modes - also make sure the colour you paint over with is a pure, bright colour.

    just had another member show me "Image>Adjustment>HDR Toning" and was able to get this effect with only that menu item, just played quickly with the settings. Anyways, thought it might be another starting point to add to the tool kit.

    Thanks for the explanation Anveshiano. Did you use curves to make it look like HDR image? Or did you use multiple images: File>Automate>Merge to HDR Pro (at least that is my command in CS5). I am new to HDR... anyways, I like the effect you achieved.
