My names Steve. I play in a three piece band, like photography and making silly photoshopped phots of my friends!

I have a photo that is rectangular in shape that I would like to make square to use as a record cover for our new record. Picture attached. I would have usually cloned the sky to make the picture square, but the sky has a slight texture to it, and is lit up in parts. (it is a photo of a picture made of paper with led lights poking through it). I was wondering if anybody could give me any hints or tips on how to achieve this?

Make the canvas square Image|Canvas Size was 2.917 X 2.088 so put .829 in the height box.
Then use Transform and stretch the image to the new canvas size.

Hi, welcome to PSG fuzz. You might also want to add some sharpening. If you have the smart sharpen option, that will work better for this than the unsharp mask. Or you can take jpegs into camera raw and there is a pretty fair program for sharpening there.

I played with your image, made it a smart object (and you probably know -- no offense -- it's wise to duplicate your base layer and mess with the duplicate) and applied the smart sharpen: settings basic & default; amount 28; radius 3.8; remove Gaussian Blur; check more accurate. Watch the edge of the red paper if you sharpen. That's a good place to watch for noise from over sharpening.
