    Text on a 3d object

Apologies - I'm an experience photoshopper but haven't ever touched it for 3d. Basically I need to wrap text around a 3d object (vaguely cylindrical) as if it's printed on the curved sides. Can anyone suggest an effective and ideally quickish way of doing this, or maybe even a free bit of 3d software that's be good for such a simple job? I'm using a Mac but also have access to a PC. I would just warp it to make it look right but I've got to do this for about 200 lines of text of varying sizes & content! Thanks

Open the appropriate texture, in this case the label texture (1), choose Open Texture from the diffuse dropdown box.. Add the text to that texture layer, save and close (2).
    The result (3).

    Welcome !

You could also play with the blending modes/and opacity if you put a coloured text.

Another way is to rasterize the text, and apply it the same distortions as the image (spherize, displacement map...)

Or you restart the tut, but with the text merged on the background at the beginning of the tut...

An Idea might be to ask Phil directly at Photoshop Cafe's Forum... ;)
    And report the info here!

    Text on a 3d o

Thanks for trying to help.Unfortunately it does not work when the text in the box is a variable, which is what my problem is. Create a variable called "Test" as type "Text" and enter "ABCD". If you then put that variable in it does not work.By the way, I am not using a text-entry box, I am using a Text-Label object.

Variables will work on the texture object, not on the 3D object itself.
