What's all the artifacts hanging around the edges of your text? Did you try and cut these out or something?? Ive never seen text do that unless it was removed from a background...

Start over and use the same Font on a transparent background or tell us what Font you used...

You could try adjusting your text antialiasing settings. (I'm guessing - it's also how I got to replicate this effect after reading your post...)

    - Make sure your text layer is selected, and that you've got the type tool as the active tool (Shortcut: 'T')

At the top of your screen is a drop down that controls the antialiasing. (This is usually set to "crisp" on my system.)

If this doesn't help, it might also be the filetype you saved it as.
In PS, does the text appear jagged on screen, or only after you've saved the file? If this is the case, then it most likely has to do with the fact that you're saving to GIF. Try a .PNG and see if that works.

looks to me as if you started with a very poor font to begin with, I would start all over with a cleaner font and save as png

Your problem is the size of the image 8.3" X 1.3" at a Resolution setting of 72 in the Image Size settings box.
As for all the junk around the text I agree with Dezigns Unlimited, it seems like a background was removed.

Here it is at 8.3" X 1.3" at a Resolution setting of 300.
