    Armin Hofmann Giselle effect

    Hello all,

    I would like some help on how to achieve the effect applied on the famous poster "Armin Hofmann Giselle" ballerina

    Hmmm... high-speed B/W film, theatrical stage lighting, and a spinning ballerina...

    in PS... process a B/W image with lots of contrast, and add grain/noise... selectively take things to black...
    stage lighting will be the most difficult to reproduce, unless you start with a stage lit image...

    That's not an applied effect as far as I can see. Done in 1959 it's probably a result of "pushed" 400 ASA (ISO) analog film, maybe even transferred to high contrast Lithfilm before printing. Smalltrees suggestions are most probably the way to go here.
