How do you retain settings across edits?

Forgive me if the above question has been asked before.

Here's what I want to do:

1. Open digital camera photo (captured at max resolution of the camera 3072x2304), tweak levels, brightness/contrast, resize to a smaller size 1024x768, then save on the hard drive ready for upload.

2. Open another camera photo to edit, but this time I want to see the settings used on the previous photo in order to make the edits.

By default, photoshop resets the adjustment settings across edits - so how do you prevent this from happening?

It sounds like you want to record an action.
An action is a way to record and save a series of commands like "Open digital camera photo (captured at max resolution of the camera 3072x2304), tweak levels, brightness/contrast, resize to a smaller size 1024x768, then save on the hard drive ready for upload".

Open a typical image and record and save the Action, then in Bridge select all the images for this process and go to Tools|Photoshop|Batch and enter the action that you recorded where it says Action:

Thanks for the suggestion, Steve, but, no, that's not really what I'm after.

Running the batch command of recorded actions applies the same adjustment settings to all files being edited. However, I want to get a uniform look to a series of pictures taken one after another under slightly variable lighting conditions (for instance, when there are clouds in the sky).
